Fraud reported in CO's unemployment insurance program
Fraudsters began targeting the state's UI program related to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, and have since moved on to attack the state's regular unemployment benefits system. Colorado is not unique, as similar reports are being made in states across the country. Victims can report the fraudulent claim by going to: https://cdle.colorado.gov/unemployment Click on "Report Fraud" Click on "You received unemployment paperwork or a Debit Card without claim"
Victims should also:
Contact all three credit bureaus and put a "fraud alert" on their name and/or Social Security Number.
Get a free copy of their credit report from each credit bureau, in order to review it. Should anything inaccurate appear on a report, a dispute must be filed directly with the credit bureau(s).
Should an inquiry from another state's Department of Labor appear on a credit report, there is a good chance the victim has also been targeted by a fraudulent UI claim in that state.
File a police report with the police department nearest where they live, letting the police know they've been a victim of identity theft and a fraudulent UI claim was filed in their name.
